Four possible replacements for Carlos Vinícius as Tottenham eye alternatives to the Brazilian

With Carlos Vinícius failing to make much of an impact during his season-long loan at Tottenham Hotspur, it’s hardly much of a surprise that the north London club are reportedly unwilling to exercise the huge £36 million option to buy him from Portuguese outfit Benfica.

The 26-year-old has scored a respectable nine goals in 12 cup games. However, minutes have been few and far between in the Premier League, whilst domestic goals have been even more scarce. Therefore, Spurs will be on the hunt for a forward who will help their stock rise further in the English Premier odds this summer.

So, with Vinícius set to join Roberto Soldado, Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen on the list of strikers who have failed to succeed in north London, let’s look at some of Tottenham’s reported options this summer.

Nicolás González

Argentine international Nicolás González is believed to be on Daniel Levy’s shortlist. The 23-year-old currently plies his trade in the German Bundesliga for Vfb Stuttgart, who he joined from Argentinos Juniors back in July 2018. González scored just twice in 30 league games in his maiden season in Germany as Stuttgart were relegated to the 2. Bundesliga. However, he helped them bounce straight back to the top flight with 14 goals. This season, his Bundesliga record has been a lot better with six strikes and two assists in 15 games.

Jonathan Bamba

After a series of loan spells across both France and Holland whilst at Saint-Étienne, Jonathan Bamba has finally found his feet since joining Lille in 2018. The forward scored 13 goals in 38 games in his first season at the club. However, in his second campaign, he found the net just once. He looks to have rediscovered some form this season with six goals and nine assists in 35 Ligue 1 games. Although, with a reported fee of around £25m needed to lure the 25-year-old to north London, we’re sure Spurs fans would much prefer González, who would cost roughly the same price.

Danny Ings

Danny Ings is another striker Tottenham are reportedly keen on. Things may not have worked out for the 28-year-old at Liverpool. However, he has impressed again since joining Southampton, and with just one year remaining on his contract at the St. Mary’s Stadium on the south coast, Spurs could nab him at a cut price this summer. Although, they will have their work cut out to gain his sought-after signature, as it’s believed Champions League finalists Manchester City are weighing up a move for the former Burnley man with Sergio Agüero set to move on this summer.

Tammy Abraham

With Tammy Abraham falling out of favour at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel, it looks all the more likely that the Blues’ youth product will force a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, and there’s a chance he could rock up across London at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Several Premier League clubs are on red alert as tensions rise between the German manager and the 23-year-old. However, with Chelsea reportedly set to hold out for £40m, Spurs could have the upper hand in beating the likes of Newcastle United and West Ham United to his signature.
