Southampton legend and penalty-supremo Matt Le Tissier came to the rescue of a young Saints fan who was constantly bullied by his schoolmates – by giving him a lift to the lad’s school prom.

Goalkeeper Ben, 11, from Southampton, Hants, has been attending Matt Le Tissier Natural Coaching Academy for four years but school the kids at school told him he was lying.

But he got the last laugh when Le Tissier, nicknamed ‘Le God’ by Southampton fans, drove him to his leavers do at Oakwood Primary School. Ben Mum, who asked the former scorer of thunderbastard’s to do this, waxed lyrical about their local hero:

“It was amazing, Ben has had a hard time at school, they were taking the mick out of him saying he doesn’t go to the MLT academy. We wanted to do something special for his prom and Ben was completely shocked, it was lovely. “I was hopeful Matt would say yes because he is a lovely guy, but it was a shot in the dark. But then I went into the academy and they said he would love to do it.”

Here’s a photo of the moment Ben became officially the coolest kid in school:
