Zidane Casually Brushes Off Pique’s Twitter Jibe

Gerard Pique has been a busy boy on Twitter recently taking shots where he can, the Barcelona and Spain defender was recently asked on Twitter about Madrid’s Champions League win last year, Pique’s response reeked of sour grapes.

For those non-spanish speakers out there, the Tweet reads “Easy group, 3rd best team in Italy for last 16, Germany’s 8th placed team in the quarters, England’s 4th placed team urn the semis, return leg at home.”

Nobody expects Gerard to be cock-a-hoop about the fact that his team’s intense rivals lifted the Champions League last year, but that is about as bitter as it gets. Zidane however, was not fazed by the Barcelona man’s attempts to rile him and his club, speaking to La Marca Zizou said:

“He has his view, his opinion, we won the Champions League, we battled hard, it was tough. Over the course of a Champions League it’s very demanding. He said they won the league and are the best team in Spain. If you win the league you have got the right to say that.”

Reading between the lines here, Zizou is essentially saying yeah, you’re the best team in Spain, but we’re the best in Europe, how day’s like them apples Pique! Naturally the Frenchman is far too professional to say such a thing.

Pique should hope that his game can back up his mouth again this year having now taken shots at both Arsenal and Real Madrid, stoking the fire is great when it works, but if it fails, you will look like an idiot mate.
